LONGWOOD HOCKEY

Longwood was born from Larry and Sarahmay Robbins' vision to create a rink where their boys, their teammates, and future generations of players could train, compete, and simply enjoy the game. Sarahmay designed the space by hand, creating a home centered around a 13,000 sq. ft. frozen “living room” beneath distinctive long wooden truss beams. Since opening in 2012, Longwood has become a special training ground for the hockey community, with hundreds of Division I players and countless NHL players skating on its ice. The joy, competition, and development created at Longwood ultimately inspired the Longwood Hockey name and the environment we continue to build today.

The rink itself is 115' x 85', a perfect size for training, goalie lessons, in-zone team preparation, and 4-on-4 hockey. The intimacy and quietness of the rink make it perfect for teaching and learning, and we often let the kids play without adults overcoaching so they can experience pickup pond hockey on smoother ice than Minnesota lakes or Toronto parks. Longwood has hosted groups such as the Sled Rangers and Hockey in Harlem to expand access to the sport and has hosted billets for more than a decade who lived and trained at the home during their youth hockey years before advancing to junior, college, and professional hockey. We have never charged a dollar for anything at Longwood, though some groups have generously made charitable donations in gratitude, and the environment has always been centered around joyous competition. Above the rink, kids and families gather in the lounge for team meals and video sessions, which became the inspiration for the Surf, Breakers, and Wave Lounge at Palm Ice and Palm Beach Ice Works
